Actress Teri Hatcher has revealed that Desperate Housewives will not be able to replace the character Edie Britt, who left the US show at the weekend.

The part was played by English-born star Nicollette Sheridan, but she has now been written out of the show.

Hatcher, who plays the role of Susan in the hit series, said that her character had some good storylines with Edie.

Commenting at a television festival in Los Angeles, the New Adventures of Superman actress said. "I think that character will be missed on the show, and I don’t believe that character is replaceable."

She added that the show’s format allows for interesting characters to arrive at ease, on a regular basis.

The former Lois Lane actress also revealed that she presented Sheridan with a scrapbook as a goodbye present.

Fellow stars Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria-Parker still appear on the popular TV programme.
