'Generous' bingo donations help out

Donations from “generous” bingo players at a Welsh numbers game club have helped raise £550 for children’s charity Follow Your Dreams.

Victoria Park Community Bingo Club in Barry was able to make the sum after holding its Christmas party in December 2008, reports the Barry and District News.

It took just three hours to create the cash pot, which was also contributed to by a raffle at the festive celebration.

Club treasurer Jean Kirke told the publication that the money level kept rising throughout the course of the party.

“We got to £400 and then made an announcement that we wanted to take it to £500,” she explained. “Then we made it to £530, so we made it up to £550 with committee money to round it up.”

Online bingo sites have also been raising cash for charity recently, with Gala Bingo looking to bring in money for the Sue Ryder Care organisation.

The company recruited US president Barack Obama’s stepmother to help promote a game on its site.
