Knightley appears in new ad

English actress Keira Knightley is the star of a new campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence.

The scheme, which was launched yesterday, is a hard-hitting marketing film that aims to bring the problem to the attention of the UK.

During the Women’s Aid production, the actress gets beaten up and it is hoped that the shocking images get a message across.

Knightley, who has appeared in movies such as Atonement and Pride and Prejudice, said that domestic violence is an issue people "rarely hear about".

The 25-year-old added: "We may not think we know someone who has experienced domestic violence, but this does not mean that it is not happening."

The ad was produced by Atonement director Joe Wright, who often works alongside Knightley.

Lasting for two minutes, the new campaign ends with the tagline: "Isn’t it time someone called ‘Cut!’?"
