Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker is to have twins through a surrogate mother.

The star’s spokesperson confirmed the news that SJP and her husband Matthew Broderick were expecting the baby girls for the end of the summer.

They said that the pair were "happily anticipating the birth" with the "generous help of a surrogate".

No further information was given as to who the surrogate was or for what reason the pair have chosen to use one.

A source close to the pair, however, told Entertainment Weekly that they had turned to alternative methods after a series of unsuccessful tries.

"They’re over the moon and excited as any prospective parents would be. Their life is about to get busier," the source added.

Last year Sarah Jessica and Matthew’s relationship was rocked by rumours that he had an alleged affair with a younger woman, although it seems as if the couple have come out of the situation stronger.
