After being away from EastEnders for six years, Sharon, played by 44-year old Leticia Dean, is returning to Walford!  Sharon was one of the original characters in the BBC soap, when the show began in 1985 and this is Leticia’s third comeback to the Square, having started off in the programme as the adopted teenage daughter of ‘Dirty’ Den and Angie Watts.

Her character, Sharon, stayed in the series for some 10 years until 1994 when she fled Walford after it was revealed that she was having an affair with Phil Mitchell, while married to his brother, Grant. She then returned in 2001 to take over as landlady of The Queen Vic pub and remained there until 2004, but had a swift return in 2005, when she fell in love with her adoptive brother Dennis Rickman and had a baby with him. She left again in 2006 to move to America with her child after Dennis was stabbed to death.

After she left EastEnders for the last time, Leticia kept herself busy by taking to the stage in ‘High School Musical’ and taking part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Now she returns to EastEnders as Sharon once again this summer with a secret storyline. Leticia said of her return to the series, ” I am really looking forward to being part of the EastEnders team again, as it has always been very close to my heart. I cannot wait to work with my old colleagues and see what is in store for Sharon.”
