Five-figure sum won at bingo hall A Scottish bingo player has won £18,000 after her numbers came up at her local Gala Bingo venue.

The National Bingo website reports that the Glenrothes lady made a full house in 43 numbers - and ended up sharing the National Game prize with another player elsewhere in the UK.

Wishing to remain anonymous, the lucky lady did claim that she was "totally bewildered" by her victory at the Fife-based bingo hall.

Her five-figure windfall was made up of a couple of regional awards, in addition to the £16,000 national prize.

Speaking to the website, the new bingo champion said: "It doesn't seem real yet but it's absolutely fantastic."

Bingo is a popular pursuit in Scotland, according to the managing director of Carlton Bingo.

Peter Perrins recently told the Scotsman that the numbers game has a "long and proud" history north of the border.
