June Brown - the actress who plays Dot Branning in popular BBC1 soap EastEnders - collected her MBE recently.
She called the situation "quite remarkable" and was pleased to accept the royal honour for her services to the public and charitable work.
As well as starring on EastEnders, which last month was voted Most Popular Serial Drama at the National TV awards, Brown is president of a children's charity.
She heads the Michael Elliott Trust, which allows kids with special needs to look after abandoned donkeys.
Commenting further on her special award, the actress claimed that Dot would have appreciated the acknowledgment.
"[Dot] would have been absolutely delighted. She's a great royalist and a fairly good Christian," she explained.
Brown has played the part of Dot for over 20 years, first appearing on the show as Dot Cotton in 1985.
In addition to having a number of moving storylines, she was the star of the soap's first ever solo character episode.
