The double taxation to which bingo clubs in the UK are subjected is the topic of a letter between Scottish National Party Treasury spokesperson Stewart Hosie and Treasury minister Angela Eagle.
Mr Hosie has contacted his fellow politician, calling for something to be done to end the "incredibly unfair" situation that sees the bingo halls in the UK taxed more than other gambling organisations.
His comments reflect what the Bingo Association has been campaigning for over the last 12 months and the trade group urged chancellor Alistair Darling to remove one of the taxes on the industry in his 2008 Budget, but it was to no avail.
Currently the members of the bingo industry have their revenues subjected to both VAT and gross profits tax.
Lots of bingo establishments have had to close in the last five years due to burdens such as this.
In a statement, Mr Hosie said: "Licensed bingo remains the only gambling product subject to double taxation, which results in an effective tax rate of 28.2 per cent compared with 15 per cent for most other gambling products."
