The number of gaming machines permitted in UK bingo halls could be set to double, it has emerged.
Numbers game establishments can currently hold four B3 machines on their premises, but the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has called for an order to be laid before parliament this week that may result in this figure rising to eight.
Bingo Association chiefs will apparently keep its members updated on news of the situation.
"It is hoped that this will come into force early in the new year. We will keep members advised accordingly," a statement from the trade association said last week.
Ministers from the DCMS were present at a Business in Leisure and Sport meeting recently, reports the Publican.
Chairman of the group Neil Goulden used the forum to say that bingo clubs, pubs and other community leisure facilities make a "clear contribution" to society in the UK.
