Construction on a new leisure and retail development is set to begin in north-east England in 2009.
The £45 million complex, which will include a new bingo hall for the community, has been given the green light to be built in Bishop Auckland.
Final sign-off is still required, but it likely that work on the development will go ahead, reports the Evening Gazette.
Terrance Hill Group, the developer of the project, will bring a 1,000-seater multiplex cinema, a bowling alley and a huge Sainsbury's food store, as well as new bingo, to the town.
Duncan McEwan, director at the firm, told the newspaper: "We anticipate being on site early in the new year and look forward to watching the transformation of this derelict site for the benefit of the community."
