If you’ve been following the X Factor this year, you’ll know that 16-year-old Ella Henderson was voted off the show last night after a shock head-to-head with fellow favourite, James Arthur.
The two young singers were thought to be two of the most talented singers on the show, as well as being favourites to win the whole competition, so both judges were left horrified when they had to choose between them.
Nicole stuck with her act, James, and Tulisa voted to save her act, Ella, but Louis and Gary’s votes were split and the vote was taken to ‘deadlock’, with Ella being announced as the contestant with the lowest amount of public votes.
All of the judges seemed to be upset and angry at the result, but it was Tulisa who lashed out at the public, saying, 'This is exactly when people are voting for the wrong people. These people should be finalists. This is ridiculous. My decision is James, even though I love him to death. I shouldn't have to make this decision tonight… It's ridiculous, this situation, it's ridiculous, it's ridiculous.”
Ella herself showed great maturity that went beyond her 16 years and accepted her fate graciously, saying, 'This year, the talent on the show is incredible. Everyone deserves to be on this show. I wouldn't be where I am now without this show. (I loved) meeting people, the contestants are great. I love you all. I loved performing on this stage. I've loved every minute of it. I've grown so much.”
Even celebs took to Twitter to tweet about the surprise result. Ex X Factor contestant, Leona Lewis, wrote, “No way should Ella and James be singing against each other!”, while Denise Van Outen (who is currently in rival TV show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ tweeted, “X Factor has become a joke.”
Even the X Factor audience appeared to be annoyed by the result and Christopher Maloney was booed when he found out that he was through to next week and although Rylan Clark actually jumped for joy when he found out he was through, afterwards on The Xtra Factor he was visibly upset. He broke down in tears as he felt guilty that Ella had been voted off rather than himself. He said,
“Ella should be in the final. She's like a little sister to me.” When he was asked by host Caroline Flack, “Do you feel as though it should have been you instead of her?”, he replied, “One hundred per cent. I just feel so guilty. I can't thank people enough for voting for me, but Ella shouldn't have gone.” He also praised his friend, James Arthur, saying, 'This boy here is one of the most talented people I've ever met in my entire life and he doesn't deserve to be in the bottom two.”
Ella remained hopeful about her future singing career and encouraged her fans to keep on backing her. She wrote, “So.... I just wanna say thank u to all of u dedicated supporters! U are all true #stars and I love u all! X” and “I need u to all stay with me and support me ... Cannot wait till the Xfactor tour... And this is just the beginning! Xx Ella #biglove”
